Grease and oil on water-safe carpets
Grease and oil sit on a carpet differently from wet spills. They coat the dry fiber and push plain water away. Our formula is water based, without solvents or petroleum, yet it takes them on. Here is what to watch for when a greasy mark meets the cloth.
Water based liquid on an oily mark
People expect an oily mark to need a solvent. Solvents carry fumes and petroleum, and our formula contains neither. It is water based, yet it releases greasy substances from colorfast carpets, rugs, and upholstery that can be safely dampened with water.
You do not need to add dish soap or solvent sprays first. Adding other liquids before you start can push the oil sideways into clean fibers and make the outline larger than what fell.
Why blotting matters more than soaking
A wet spill sinks fast, but oil clings to the outside of each strand. If you soak the spot with too much liquid at once, the oily film floats on top and widens across the pile. Keep the application light so the mark stays where it landed.
Your cloth does the heavy work here. The liquid loosens the hold, and the absorbent towel draws the oil out of the pile. Press down firmly to transfer the color onto the fabric instead of sliding it across the surface.
Old grease that has gathered dust
An oily mark that went unnoticed darkens over time because everyday dust sticks directly to the grease. The black patch you see by the kitchen threshold or near a garage entry is often dust trapped on an old oily footprint.
Take up the dry surface dirt first if loose grit is sitting on top. Once the dry layer is clear, treat the remaining dark mark. Older grease may take two rounds of blotting to lift the trapped traffic soil entirely.
